The West Tour is more than half-way through and the Southeast Tour started up two weeks ago in Atlanta. It is time for the Midwest to join the action. Tomorrow, 73 teams will be heading to the Montrose Athletic Fields in Chicago, IL to compete in the first Midwest Tour Stop of 2018. Like at a couple other events this season, Sunday will feature a Coed Division, this time fielding 14 teams. Advanced The Chicago Tour Stop has attracted a large group of top players. The Advanced Division contains 16 Premier teams, the most of any Tour Stop this year. These 16 is a motley crew. Pool play in its current form is lengthy, tedious, and does not fulfill its purpose of accurately ranking teams for bracket play. (Many teams recognize this and - smartly - conserve effort for the “real” part of the tournament.) By modifying the format of pool play we can see more of the energy and exciting matchups currently found only in the bracket stage. The weekend after the Atlanta Tour Stop became the largest Southeast Tour Stop in history, the San Francisco Tour Stop tied the record for the largest West Tour Stop! With these increased numbers came a strong field of teams with 58 in the Advanced Division, 6 in the Women's Division and 50 in the Intermediate Division. At the past two West Tour Stops, the #2 ranked Wabi Sabi (Preston Bies and Jarratt Rouse) took first place.
