Pool Play & Seeding

  • The idea here is to simplify the depreciation and make up for the missed 2020 season. Points would no longer be depreciated within the current season. Points from a previous season would be worth 25% of their value in the following season. Points last for one season after they are earned (with the exception of 2019 points lasting 2 seasons due to Covid cancellations). For example points earned in the 2021 season would be worth 25% in 2022 season.
    • Individual players receive 50% of the team points
    • Seeding takes the sum of top 3 individual points from 2019 season (25% non-depreciated) or 2021 points (100% non-depreciated).
  • Premier pools will be seeded using a reverse snaking method. Top 2 in each pool advanced to a slotted spot on the Pro Bracket. The bracket slots may be altered slightly from traditional formatting to avoid pool play rematches.
    • Pools of 4 or 5
    • Best of 3 matches (to 15 or 21)
  • Teams not qualifying for Pro Bracket will play out the Premier bracket

Bracket Play

  • Slotting for the Pro Bracket is based off placing in pool and maps to a bracket spot.
    • . If you win pool A you get the one seed because that theoretically has the best team in it.
    • Example:
  • Seeding for the Premier Bracket is based off pool play results.
  • Best of 3 matches (to 15 or 21)
  • All teams will get at least one round of consolation games when eliminated.

Points

  • The points are used to track the seedings for Pro/Premier and Women’s divisions.
    • At least 8 teams must be registered for a division to be eligible for points at an event.
    • Premier rankings will start where Pro rankings end. - for example, if there are 8 teams in the Pro Division, first place in Premier would be considered 9th place and so on.
    • When T-5, T-7 etc., base points will be the average (ie T-5 is the average of 5-8 points = 50)
    • Sanctioned Independent Events award 25% of points to each ranking.

Strength Multiplier for Tour Series

Tournaments have varying degrees of difficulty based on the teams that participate. To make our rankings more accurate we have a strength multiplier. In 2020, we've added more tiers to the strength multiplier and have included fractional multipliers. These additions allow the multiplier to be more responsive to the strength of the field and means the points more accurately reflect the difficulty of the competition. The strength multiplier is determined by looking at the percentage of total ranking points compared to the maximum amount of points.

Premier: We compare the top 3 points of the top 32 players in the highest division to the top 3 finishes of the top 32 players overall. (If there are fewer than 16 teams we look at the points of all players in the highest division.)

Women's: We compare the top 3 points of the top 10 players in the highest division to the top 3 finishes of the top 10 players overall.

Top 3 points follows: 2019 at 25% non-depreciated, 2021 at 100% non-depreciated

Total Possible Points Multiplier
90 - 100% 1.6
80 - 89.99% 1.5
70 - 79.99% 1.4

Pro Division at Nationals
  • Top 2 teams at each Tour Event earn an auto bid
    • “True 2nd” would be implemented as: If the team that loses the finals beat the team that wins the 3rd place game, the results hold. If the team that loses finals didn’t play the team that wins the third place game, then those two teams play 1 additional series - winner gets 2nd. Loser gets 3rd.
  • 16 team division is the goal. If we get 17-19 teams to accept the bid then we will fill spots to 20 by points (top 3 team points from 2021 non-depreciated). Less than 16 teams will only fill to 16 spots.
